Coming soon…

Shooting What I Believe In | Baltimore and Annapolis Wedding & Family Photographer

This may get a little long, a little ramble-y. But it’s because it’s coming from my heart.

Sometimes, when I’m overwhelmed or having a bad day, I just want to run away. But probably not how you’re thinking. I want to grab my camera, a bunch of extra cards and batteries, and find something beautiful to see in a new way. When I’m down, or struggling, I turn to my art to heal my soul. I know I’ve talked about it before.  In addition to my mini-sabbaticals, I believe in the importance of taking on personal photo projects. Such as the Mother & Daughter project. In many ways, that project opened my eyes to the bigger picture. (Excuse the unintentional pun.) Lately, I’ve been thinking about how important photographs are to everyone. We all have cameras with us, nearly every minute of the day. We capture the silly, the minutiae of everyday life, and the much more significant. We share these instantly with our friends, family and the world. We all have a story to tell and celebrate, and that goes far beyond capturing a wedding day, or annual family portrait, or senior session. Who are we? How did we get here? What is important to us? I’ve been thinking a lot about my role in these stories, beyond that of historian/photographer.

So, back to the bigger picture. In my journey to capture the bond between mothers and daughters, and celebrate that bond, it occurred to me that there are so many stories that I could learn from. And maybe, if I had the chance to share them, others could learn from, as well. And so my journey continues. I am going to seek out people who want to share their story – their joys, successes, even failures. And I’m going to celebrate that story in images.  I won’t call it a “Model Call”, because it’s not an accurate description. I want real people, with real stories. When I have an announcement, I will be sure to post here, on Facebook, Twitter, and on G+.  I believe in stories, stories to be shared and celebrated.

Currently, I am looking for one couple, and one teen, who have beautiful, heartbreaking, or inspiring stories to tell. We will talk about your story – kind of like an interview, and plan a session to showcase your unique tale. If you are interested in participating, or would like to nominate a deserving couple or teen, please email angela{at}powellwoulfe{dot}com by 10/5/2013 at 6 p.m.

I’m looking forward to this new purpose in my art. I’m eager to learn, appreciate, and share. My favorite photographs always have a story. I’d be honored to tell yours.

The N Family | A Recipe for Success | Lorton Family Photographer

Fall…makes me think about recipes. Apple pies. Pumpkin bread. Thanksgiving. OK, maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself. It is only September, right? But it is certainly my favorite time of year, and a favorite for families to update their portraits.

Even though the day of their session didn’t exactly feel like fall (it was HOT!), the N family and I definitely had a great time. We did have some key ingredients: a perfect park setting, a family with a tradition of family portraits, everyone ready to have fun and be themselves, and two kids that were a blast to hang around. When we’re all having fun, it certainly shows in the end result! I called it a recipe for success.

A few nights ago, my daughter was supposed to be in bed, asleep. Instead, she was stalling in our bedroom and talking up a storm. She was looking at the metal print hanging in our room, from our family portraits when she was about two years old. She said to us, “I love that picture of us. That day was so much fun when you and dad were swinging me in the air.” She remembered every detail of that afternoon, even though she was a very young child. For a child who has spent most of her young life in front of the camera, it meant a great deal to me that she recalls that family session so fondly. It was also a perfect reminder to hang those photos. What good does a disc or thumbdrive of our portraits do if we don’t print and display them?

I hope that the entire family will be able to look back at these photographs and remember that day, goofy smiles and all! I will remember it for a long time. (And be on the lookout, you will see these faces gracing the website soon!) Thank you again, N Family!

Real Love Sessions | Annapolis, Washington DC & Fredericksburg Couples Photographer

UPDATE: The 10/6 and 10/20 Sessions are temporarily on hold due to the government shutdown. I will keep everyone posted on rescheduling the dates. Thank you!

Inspired by a total absence of photographs of myself and my husband alone, I have decided to offer this special opportunity for ALL couples. It doesn’t matter if you are married for 20 years, just recently engaged, or are hoping to be. If you are committed to the one you love in your heart, this is your chance to capture that bond in a special mini session.

As I tell my friends and clients, my only true regret about eloping with my husband is that we have no photos of our wedding day. We didn’t even take the time to have an engagement session. This fall, I will remedy that situation. 🙂 We have been married over six years, but it is never too late! Even if you’ve had an engagement or couples session in the past, there is always a reason to celebrate your bond and love.

These sessions will be offered on a very limited basis. Three days, three locations, only 4 spots at each location.

What a great idea. I have so few pictures of my hubby and I together (alone)! Wish I was closer!

A new look | Richmond VA Engagement & Wedding Photographer

Hi! I’m back! We’ve been moved in for exactly one month, and now it’s time to get caught up! I have lots to share from the last two months, but first we need to go through some necessary upgrades and growing pains. Please excuse the mess while I get settled into my new home and the website’s new home (and look!)

I want to start by sharing this amazing couple: Ashley & Chris. We met up about a week ago for sneak peek at their wedding venue and an engagement session. (By the way, I am in LOVE with Celebrations at the Reservoir! Gorgeous!) I am so very excited to be photographing their spring wedding in 2014.
