Fabulous Fall Fun | Washington DC Family & Wedding Photographer

Meet Miss Z. I’ve known this peanut since she was a tiny little thing! It’s hard to believe that she is in Kindergarten now! Her fall Back-to-School session was months in the making…after the weather foiled our plans twice. Fortunately, we were lucky with a gorgeous fall day in Washington DC with lots of beautiful color! Love her little sassy ‘tude! What’s a beautiful fall day without some fun and shenanigans? (We had plenty!) Check out some of our session highlights below!

What to Wear for Family Photos – Fall Edition | Annapolis Family Photographer

I know many of my clients have heard me say this, “I’m going to make an example out of you.” And now I’m making good on my threat with several of my recent sessions that I will be posting this month! Before each session, I hear the question, “What should we wear?” I repeatedly find myself coming back to the same recommendations, because it works: Blues and neutrals. Coordinate without being matchy-matchy. Keep it relaxed, and remember to accessorize.

So why does this advice produce consistently wonderful results? Well, the colors are flattering to nearly everyone, in nearly any environment. But for now, let us look at the way blues and neutrals complement the beautiful fall colors from just about a week ago in Annapolis. I had my third session with this amazing family, whom I first met when we were both stationed in San Diego. (I was very excited to discover they literally live 10 minutes from me now!) I almost giggled aloud when I arrived to their home (our chosen location for the foliage) and saw the perfect light and colors!!! I’m pretty sure I nearly fainted when I saw how they were dressed – it was PERFECTION! You can see how well the blues, creams, and tans stand out from the orange, rust, and yellow of the trees. Each member of the family is dressed to complement the others, but without being over the top with matching shirts/sweaters/shoes/etc. The result is an image where the subjects stand out from the beautiful environment, as your eye is drawn to them immediately. An extra bonus: sweaters and jeans are so comfy-cozy, everyone is happy! Seriously, can you believe this is their BACKYARD?!?! This is what I missed most about the East Coast – autumn.
