A few days ago, I mentioned why I shoot on location in this post. I want to make sure my clients get the most from their time with me, as well as from their investment. Several months ago, I switched to in-person proofing to ensure a wonderful client experience. Some of you probably still had an online gallery as I made the transition, but in 2012, I am going fully to in-person proofing. (The only exception will be my mini-marathon sessions.) You’re probably wondering what the advantages are. After all, online galleries seem so convenient. Well, allow me to explain how in-person proofing works.
All my life, I’ve been in photographs and portraits. (Like many of you.) And, for the better part of thirty years, to see the resultant images, my family had to return to the studio to view “proofs”: 4×6 or 5×7 images (usually unretouched), and place an order. The personal touches at those proofing sessions did make a big difference, and it made us feel important. (I totally remember how excited I was to see my senior portraits! I felt like a VIP!) Then, the digital age revolutionized how we communicate and share information. Online galleries were emailed to clients, and we waited for them to get back to us. But I found that often my clients were overwhelmed by an online gallery, or had questions about products or what to order, or simply wanted to hang out with me some more. (OK, so maybe I’m exaggerating that last point a little.)
Now, my proofing appointments will be made at the time you book your session, or at the session. On average, these appointments will take place 2-4 weeks after your portrait session, and will be held in your home or mine. You will view your keepsake portraits on a large HD television, so much better than a teeny tiny computer screen! At that time, we’ll review your images, review your options (and I’ll show you some samples!), and you will place your order! Simple, right?
So why are these proofing sessions better? For starters, I am there to answer any and all questions on the spot, before you forget to write it down or call me. I can also assist you with sizes, and even help you design a wall display for your home! And speaking of your home, won’t it be nice and cozy to see your images in your home where they will hang, from your couch? (Or you can come to me!) We’ll work together to decide the best places and ways to display your portraits, and you can get your hands on my most popular products. Honestly, to me it all boils down to providing the best experience I can to my clients. If you’d like, after your proofing session I can still provide an online gallery for you to share with friends and family near and far.
And there you have it! Personal Proofing Sessions! Just one way Powell Woulfe Photography is better in 2012!
