This Maryland Wedding ‘tog heads to the desert!

I think I warned you all that I have a lot to share from my trip to Las Vegas for the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International conference! My second day, Tuesday, was spent at the Cactus & Lace styled shootout in the Valley of Fire State Park, about an hour outside Las Vegas. I love the desert. LOVE it! It made me very homesick for the hillsides of Southern California. Valley of Fire is absolutely beautiful, and I can see why it is a favorite with photographers. The landscapes are almost alien looking, and certainly breathtaking. Our amazing hosts put together a fabulous shootout workshop complete with three different setups, including a wedding, an elopement, and a high fashion senior. We split off into small groups and rotated through each setup. Details, fun models, and the location made it totally unforgettable! What a fabulous experience for this Maryland Wedding Photographer!

I’m going to share these images with you in three separate posts, because there are just so many that I love. The first set I’ll share is from the desert elopement set. This couple had only met that day, but had a great chemistry! (Really – CHECK THEM OUT! HOT HOT HOT!) Models work very hard for us at these workshops. It isn’t easy having 10 people telling you to pose this way, look that way. It is quite demanding! But all five of our models for this shootout were fun, graceful, and easy to work with! It was SO much fun!! See for yourself!

So, you can probably see that this was a stunning location for photographs! As much as I love every Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland wedding venue I’ve captured, being out in the desert is refreshing! I love the challenge of the bright overhead sun, the dry air, the wind, and the exotic landscapes. It is a nice change of pace! I also realized how much I would love photographing more elopements and private wedding ceremonies, whether at “home” in the Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia area, or in places like Las Vegas, Miami, Denver, Seattle, NYC and beyond!
