Happy Holidays!! I know it’s been a long while since I’ve posted. ‘Tis the busy season, and I feel like I’ve been on the go – and that’s not a bad thing! But it does mean my poor blog goes neglected for a bit. But don’t worry – I have lots of amazing weddings, engagements, couples and more to share with you this winter!
Just a few weeks ago, I met up with Meredith + Brian for their holiday portrait session Historic Savage Mill. As you might know, my studio is located at Savage Mill, but it’s a rare opportunity for me to shoot there. I love the huge amount of variety in such a small area around the Mill and the river – and it’s perfect for sessions like this one where we had a short time frame, but wanted to include a variety of looks. I was pretty excited when Meredith shared some of her favorites from Pinterest with me. I know that many photographers cringe when they hear the words, “Oh, I loved these shots I saw on Pinterest!” – but I love to use that opportunity to explore what the client loved about the example shot, and make it our own. Sometimes it’s just a mood, or maybe it’s a color combination. I never aim to exactly duplicate a shot, but I do want to take what the client was drawn to about the image and incorporate it into our session.
Meredith + Brian were planning to use these images for their holiday cards, so we definitely wanted that wintery feel. I think the sweaters, holiday color combos, cuddles and even snow did the trick. (Anyone out there who is curious about snow when it’s not cold enough/fluffy enough/snowy enough – use potato flakes, the instant kind!) It was also important that to them to capture their fun-loving nature. I’m loving the final result of our shoot, and we did it all in just about 30 minutes! Here are some of my favorites – and I want to say THANK YOU to M+B for braving the cold, mud, and potato hazards, and to my assistant, Angie, for helping!
These are so adorable!! I love the snow too. Great work <3
Thank you, Amanda!!! And thanks for stopping by. One of these days, maybe we’ll get to work together!
These are so cute! I love how you were able to capture so many genuine laughs and smiles! Awesome!
